The Moomins from Finland

The Moomins, Finland's most international trolls and best knowing family.

Tove Jansson, creator of The Moomins was born in 1914 and grew up in Helsinki in a bohemian family of artists. She grew up aware that people are different and that differences have to be respected. The Moomins, are in many ways a self-portait of the artist, her life and her world.

The Moominvalley

Moominvalley is an idyllic and peaceful place where the Moomins live in harmony with nature. A river runs runs through this beautiful valley, which lies between the sea and the mountains.

The largest building in the valley is the Moominhouse, and its occupants welcome all visitors from the valley and further afield. Moominpappa is very proud of this house, which he built with his own Hands. It has weathered storms and earthquakes, and is big enough for everyone – the Moomins and the friends that live with them.

With the Moomin valley, Tove Jansson has actually created her ideal human world, where peaceful existence is demonstrated through everyday's life.

The Moomin Family

In Moominvalley there are many different creatures and every character have their own personality and way of expressing themselves.

The Moomin family are Moominmamma, Moominpappa and Moomintroll. Other Moomin characters are Little My, Snufkin, Snorkmaiden, Sniff, Snork, Stinky, Hemulen, Mymble, Fillyjonk, Hattifatteners, Groke and Too-ticky.
